Unexpected Consequence

May 4th, 2012

“It is our choices that show what we truly are; far more than our abilities.” That’s from Harry Potter Author, JK Rowling.

Back in the 90’s, she was a poor and very shy 25 year old English girl.

While traveling by train between London and Manchester, she had an idea for a book but, had no paper to write down her ideas.

So, she gazed out the window for the remainder of her trip.

That put her mind at ease. It was a form of meditation that allowed her to add structure to her vision.

Rowling put pen to paper and created the Harry Potter series of books.

JK Rowling was anything but an overnight sensation and experienced so many turn downs that a day without a rejection letter was considered a good day.

Unexpected consequence. We can only imagine how Rowling’s life would have been if she hadn’t taken that train ride.

Unexpected consequence. Author/Speaker and Pirate Museum owner Pat Croce always wanted more in his life.

The Philadelphia 76’ers had been a losing franchise for many years. One day, he decided to something about. He went to the local Cable company and said, “let’s buy the 76’ers”. And, they did and, at the time, Croce wasn’t a wealthy man..

Author/Speaker/Entrepreneur Reggie Brooks was a kid from the inner city. He was going nowhere. One day, he decided to attend a motivational seminar where he met his mentor.

Today, Reggie Brooks is a very wealthy man. He is the King of Abandoned Properties. He found his niche.

Unexpected consequence. Absolutely! He decided to go to that seminar that changed his life.

In life, we never know what’s going to happen. But, isn’t it better to go for the gold, hope for the best and do a little more.

Pat Croce and Reggie Brooks join me on this week’s edition of Success Again!

Carpe Diem

April 27th, 2012

Recently, I heard a fabulous saying credited to Malcolm Muggeridge. Malcolm Muggeridge was an English writer and satirist. He criticized almost everything and did so with a savage but comical wit.

Back in the 60’s and 70’s, he was introduced to the American television audience and became, as they say, an overnight TV sensation.

Later in his life, he made a serious conversion of sorts.
Muggeridge realized he spent so much of his life bashing most everything and came to appreciate what he had in the moment and realized how much he missed.

So, he decided to make the most of “now” and lamented over “The Crisis of Wasted Time.”

You work so hard on something. You’ve paid your dues. It’s Showtime! But, you hold off. But, why?

Is it indecision? Is it fear? Is it perfectionism?

There’s a great saying, “You don’t drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.”

So, what are you waiting for? The Universe has a time line.
And, if you don’t respect and respond in a timely manner to
that window of opportunity, you’ll be amazed how, out of nowhere, someone else will come up with an idea, a presentation, a way of doing things so similar to yours.

And, that’s “The Crisis of Wasted Time.”

That’s why Author/Speaker Dr. Tony Allesandra is joining us again on this week’s edition of Success Again!

Tony Allesandra is a professor and a performer. He can hit you over the head with a reality pie and have you laughing, all at the same time.

He focuses on how to create instant rapport with others. But, on this edition, he’s going to focus on helping you build rapport with yourself so you can take immediate action.

Why place yourself on the sidelines? Get into the game.

And, then Author/Speaker/Success Architect Mark Cofano shows us how to make the most of all things Internet and Social Media right now.

You can’t afford to be a victim of “The Crisis of Wasted Time.”

The Informational Superhighway’s not going away. And, if you don’t adjust, you’re then placing yourself on the sidelines of Success.

There’s nothing worse than being a “was”, a has been.

Every weekend, Success Again! is on Radio Stations from Maine to California. Check local listings for time and station.

You can hear Success Again! live online and on Cable TV. For Cable, check cable listings for CRN 1.

Online, you’ll find Success Again! at CRNTalk.com, then go to CRN 1 Saturdays at 1PM EDT, 10AM PDT and 4PM GMT.

Don’t waste time. Make the most of it.
Sincerely,
Dick Heatherton

What’s the Matter with You? Get Out of Your Own Way. Allow Success

April 20th, 2012

When nothing is certain, everything is possible.

We set up so many self-imposed limitations on ourselves and then wonder why we don’t succeed.

Is it pride, believing that we’re not being “true to ourselves” by attempting to break new ground? Is it a matter of feeling unworthy, convincing ourselves we are unprepared for something better in life?

Who are we trying to impress? No one. It’s nonsense. And, and on some gut level, we know that. It’s just that we’re human and we don’t always make the most logical decisions.

All we’re doing is taking ourselves out of the game and making it easier for others to succeed. Why? Because we have placed yourself on the sidelines and, for others who want to succeed, that means less competition for them.

Orison Swett Marden, founder of Success Magazine once said, “Most obstacles melt away when we make up our minds to walk boldly through them.” So, what are you waiting for?

Sure, it’s easier said than done. But, if others are doing it, why can’t you? There’s no secret handshake.

It’s a matter of going beyond where you are, feeling good about you and treating yourself as well as you treat others. Give yourself a little love.

That’s why Author/Speaker Anthony Silard joins us on this week’s edition of Success Again! So many Fortune 500 organizations depend on Silard to get their troops activated and back on a Success track. Why? Because what he says and teachs works. That’s why.

And, Author/Speaker/Business Strategist Norm Bour is with us. His new book, “Success at Any Age: The Baby Boomer’s (and Gen Y) Guide to becoming an Overnight Success” is essential material for anyone trying to find their way back to Success.

Success Again! is heard on Radio stations from Maine to California and Puerto Rico too! Check local listings for time and station.

You can also hear us live online at CRNTalk.com, then to CRN 1 every Saturday at 1PM ET, 10AM PT. And, those times hold true on most Cable TV outlets around the country. Just look for CRN in your local cable listings.

Give yourself a break, a boost and a blueprint to Success Again! and again and again.

So, what are you waiting for? I’m talking about your life, right here and right now.

Starting Over

April 5th, 2012

Let’s face it, every day, we’re starting over.  We wake up, shower, brush our teeth and get dressed.  Every day, we start anew.  And yet, so many of us convince ourselves that starting over, achieving Success Again! is only attained by others.  You know the old bromide: it’s all who you know or just luck.

That kind of thought is bad mental hygiene.  It’s like never bathing, brushing your teeth or changing  your clothes.  Stinky.  That attitude stinks and so will you!

We allow ourselves to get so taken up with the illusion of limitation that it becomes a self-fulfilling reality.

As Tom Ziglar, yeah, Zig Ziglar’s son has said that starting over “is simple.  It’s just not easy.”  So, how do we start over?  Well, you Plan to Win.  Then, you Prepare to Win.  If you can take those steps, then you have every right to Expect to Win.

Tom Ziglar joins me this this weekend on Success Again! on Radio stations from Maine to California.  Check local listings for time and station in your area.

Or, listen live online or on Cable TV, yes, Cable TV.  Just go to CRNTalk.com, then to CRN 1 online.  On Cable, check your directory for CRN 1 at 1PM ET, 10AM PT.

And, since we’re talking about Starting Over, Investment Advisor Jim Bear joins us.  Jim was on the program about 6 months ago.  He was excellent! What I like about Jim is his straight, no BS approach about Starting Over and making the most of the money you’ve got.  His message mirrors Tom Ziglar: Plan, Prepare and Expect to Win.

This will be a good show.  Yes, I know it’s a holiday weekend but, if you’re serious about getting ahead, you owe it to yourself to catch Success Again! every weekend.

Hey, this is your life.  And, you are worthy of Success.

Don’t talk it.  Do it.   Dick  H

Pain and Change

March 30th, 2012

So, last week, I’m giving a talk here in Southern California and right in the middle of my presentation, a wave of pain emanating from my stomach area, hit me like an onslaught from a battering ram.

It was like…what in God’s name is going on? Pain, oh yeah. What followed was a total mind freeze; never a good situation for a Speaker.

But, when you’re on, you’re on. No excuses. So, I joked with the audience while quickly checking my notes. I didn’t want to turn it into some big deal.

I was vamping, while waiting and hoping the pain would subside.

Thank goodness the pain diminished. I found my place and was able to complete my talk. It was scary. No need for details. It’s over, I’m on the mend and I’m much too young to be old so why bother dwelling on illness. Anyway, it is a was.

For me, people with nothing else to discuss but aches and pains have retired from life. That’s not retirement. It’s giving up on life.

Let’s face it, sometimes life is a pain. And, sitting on the sidelines and comparing symptoms may be great at Leisure World, but I’ve got too much to do and so do you.

What this episode affirmed for me was when Change occurs, it comes on in a fast and furious manner.

And, if you’re not plugged into Change mode;  meaning an unwillingness to adapt, you suffer the consequences big time.

The acceptance of Change is not easy. It’s tough. It’s a struggle, especially today.

But, the reward is personal accomplishment, the acceptance of and adapting to something new. It’s an inner satisfaction.

Unfortunately, we’re a society that revels in instant gratification. It’s a quick fix that lacks the depth of lasting satisfaction.

Don’t wait for change to come to you. That means you’re not in the driver’s seat. That’s passive. Get active and take control.

Where to start? It doesn’t matter. Start. The more absorbed you are in the Change process, the sooner things take shape. It’s like coming out of the fog and into focus.

And, the Personal Satisfaction you feel will be sooo rewarding.

Success Avoidance

March 15th, 2012

You come across something you’ve seen, read or heard many times before. But, this time, that something gains mental traction and astonishing significance. That’s what happened to Rhonda Byrne, Author/Producer of The Secret and The Gift. Her thoughts of ever achieving Success were distant and obscure. Success was for others; you know, those who inherited wealth or won the lottery. Then, one day, she explored how others achieved and enjoyed life. Rhonda learned and accepted that love is the key; not romantic love so much but, loving and being grateful for where you are and what you do right now. Things can always be worse. Be grateful for what you have right now. Research showed her that negative people think negative thoughts almost all the time and see no way out. Positive people are grateful and think positive the majority of the time. That attracts positive outcomes and Success. So how are you and where are you? Are you so steeped in Success Avoidance that even considering a course correction just isn’t you? Plus, taking a more positive course of action filled with love and gratitude is a bunch of BS? Well, then stick with it. But, let me ask you, who the hell are you trying to impress with the courage of your negative convictions? You have a duty to yourself, your family and those close to you to cut the crap and get with the program. Success Avoidance is a dead end. Success Acceptance is access to an open road; to Achieving all you want in life..  It becomes a habit. Sure, it’s tough. But, it’s the first step to achieving Success Again! and again and again. So, get off your ass and start now. NOW!  Just start. There is no beginning, middle or end or right way of doing it. Just start and let Success take shape.

Jury Duty, Willie Jollie, Getting Help, Harvey Mackay, Joe Vitale & Jack Canfield

March 9th, 2012

What a week- Jury Duty.  Learned a lot.  Without going into detail, a woman represented herself.  What’s the old saying about a person representing themself has a fool for a client.  So sad.  She lost her case.

It got me thinking how so many of us refuse help, don’t seek assisitance and then, suffer the consequence.  Recently, I was a guest on Author/Speaker Willie Jollie’s Sirius/XM Radio show  and we talked about the importance of reaching out as we’re looking to achieve, sustain and especially reclaim Success Again!  Get together with someone in an allied field that understands you as you understand what they are looking to achieve.  Or, get involved in a Master Mind Group.

And, as Harvey Mackay said, “Perfect practive makes  perfect.”   Feedback is so vital.  You can’t go it all alone.

I hope you’ll join us this weekend as we bring back Author/Speaker and my mentor, Dr. Joe Vitale and Co-Author of the “Chicken Soup for the Soul”  books Jack Canfield.   Success Again! is heard on stations around the country.  Check listings for time and station.  Or, go to CRNTalk.com, then to CRN 1, Saturdays 1PM ET/10AM PT or check your Cable TV listings for CRN 1 at the same time as the online broadcast.  And, don’t forget to tell your friends.  They will thank you

Dr. Jason Selk on Success Again! this weekend

February 24th, 2012

So, how did The St. Louis Cardinals, a small market baseball team, wind up winning the 2011 World Series?  It was Mental Toughness; a program set up byAuthor/Speaker/Trainer  Dr. Jason Selk.  Dr. Selk joins me this weekend on Success Again.  His best selling book, “10 Minute Mental Toughness” gives you some sort of idea of what he’s done quite successfully for individuals and organizations such as the MLB, NBA, Wells Fargo, UBS, Nascar, etc..  He’s the real deal.  Check local Radio listings for time, weekend day and station in your area.  Or, listen live Online at CRNTalk.com, then to CRN 1 at 10AM PT, 1PM ET.
